2. Communications and Information Officer, Multicultural Mental Health
Australia: Job Vacancy. MMHA has a challenging position for an experienced
professional wishing to expand their skills in a national organisation.
The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and
coordinating MMHA’s communications strategy, including its magazine,
website, publications, promotion and information service. Contact

4.  Supporting Young Carers project, Carers Australia. This project aims
to provide young carers and their families with practical support. It’s
about reconnecting young carers to their communities, coordinating support
to give them time out and time with understanding others. Young carers can
access services through their local Commonwealth Carer Resource Centre

5. The 2005 National Award for Student Journalists is a joint initiative
of FECCA and SBS, which aims to encourage positive coverage of
multicultural issues in the media. Winning students will undergo a
comprehensive traineeship involving two-week stints in the newsrooms of
SBS Television, SBS Radio and SBS Digital Media and $1000 from FECCA.
Short listed stories will be published in FECCA’s magazine, Australia

designed for men. Series of excellent pamphlets   to help men deal with
many the different stages in their lives. The kit is an outcome of the
Northern Territory Male Program; a program for men from all backgrounds

2. What is important in evaluating health care quality? An International
Comparison of User views. BMC Health Services Resources 2005, 5:16. The
question in this article is whether there are also differences in what
people in different health care systems view as important aspects of
health care quality. This paper aims to describe and international
differences in the importance that health care users attach to different

3. Excluded Older People: an interim report that focuses on tackling
isolation and social exclusion among older people. Produced after
consultation with older people, service providers and academics. The
report identifies three main areas needing more work in the UK: early
support and preventative services, greater control and choice for older
people to avoid untimely dependency and more ‘joined up’ services linking
support from benefits to houses to health to provide great flexibility and

1. Making a Difference. The conference of the CS&H Industry Skills Council
Conference. 7-8th June 2005: Australian Technology Park, Sydney. The
conference will showcase the industries involved with the council and
discuss how they can all work together to improve skills development,

2.  Introduction to Mental Health: postgraduate course delivered by
Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre and School of Mental Health
and the University of Queensland. The course is delivered in Semester 1 of
each academic year as a series of eight one-day Train the Trainer
workshops across four months. Workshops can be individually attended.

3. Victorian Transcultural Mental Health Research Conference 2005. Call
for abstracts due: 27 May 2005. The aim of this inaugural Transcultural
Mental Health Research conference is to enable Victorian researchers and
post-graduate students to share research findings, discuss transcultural
research methods and explore possibilities for collaboration. Conference

1. Read the signs: A joint initiative between Lifeline and MTAA Super. A
campaign promoting help seeking and suicide prevention in the workplace.
The campaign is designed for male employees in mind and provides the
opportunity to develop employer skills in recognising and responding to

3. Partners in Care: Working Together to Make a Real Difference. The Royal
College of Psychiatrists and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers have
joined together for a campaign to highlight the problems faced by carers
of all ages, of people with different mental health and learning
disabilities and encourage partnerships between carers, consumers and
